The Butterfly in My Neck

For every family at the beginning of this journey.

When my daughter was diagnosed with congenital hypothyroidism, I had so many questions. I was overwhelmed, deeply depressed and carrying a painful amount of self-blame. Much of what I found online felt confusing, frightening or simply did not reflect the life that was waiting for us.

When I came through the other side, I realized that the diagnosis was not as scary as it had first appeared. With the right information, treatment and support, fear slowly made room for understanding and hope.

I am creating this book to stay beside other families through that journey—and so that one day, when a little girl or boy asks, “Why am I taking this pill?”, their grown-up can place a gentle, honest answer right into their hands.
